Coworking spaces in Sri Lanka: every option by town for 2026

Sri Lanka's coworking scene is small but growing fast. Colombo has the most professional spaces; Weligama, Ahangama and Hiriketiya have the best nomad scene. Here is every option we know of, town by town, and how to pick the right one.

A few years ago, working remotely in Sri Lanka meant a café table and hope. Now there are spaces with fiber, air conditioning, call booths and backup power across the main towns, and several combine coworking with coliving so you can live and work in one place.

This guide groups them by town. Spaces open, close and change prices often, so treat it as a starting point and check details directly before you commit to a monthly pass.

// Choosing a space

What to check before you pay

PowerBackup that covers the routerGenerator or solar backup matters in Sri Lanka. Ask whether it keeps the internet running, not just the lights.
CallsBooths or quiet roomsSocial coliving spaces can be loud. If you take many calls, look for private booths or pods.
HoursAccess when you workWorking European or American hours? Look for 24/7 member access rather than café opening times.
PriceDay pass firstBuy a day pass before a monthly membership and test the connection at your busiest time of day.

// Colombo

Coworking in Colombo

The capital has the widest choice and the most office-like spaces, aimed as much at local startups and companies as at visitors. It is the best bet for long, call-heavy days. See our Colombo page for the city overview.

  • HUB9: coworking on Park Gardens, with its Catalyst space on Fife Road
  • Colombo Cooperative: an air-conditioned space on Galle Road in Colombo 03 with a lounge and office equipment
  • Co-nnect at Shangri-La Colombo: hotel-based coworking at Galle Face
  • International operators: Regus and Spaces run centers across the city, and The Executive Centre operates at the World Trade Center, useful if you want a corporate setting or a business address

// Weligama

Coworking in Weligama

The busiest nomad base on the south coast, with the largest cluster of spaces. Read our full Weligama page for the town itself.

  • Outpost Weligama: a beachfront coworking and coliving space on the bay, with oceanfront rooms, a café and day, week and month passes
  • Plan B: a dedicated coworking café on the bypass road, popular for very fast fiber, air conditioning and long opening hours
  • Sugar Hostel: a social hostel in the town center with an air-conditioned coworking room; its sister properties include a lakefront retreat in Koggala
  • Vagabond Collective: a hostel built around remote workers, with an on-site coworking area, yoga and a gym

// Ahangama

Coworking in Ahangama

Quieter than Weligama, with a strong café culture and several spaces that combine work, pools and coliving. More on the Ahangama page.

  • Verse Collective: coliving and coworking near the bay with ocean views, private pods for calls, a café and a music and podcast studio
  • Dots Bay House: a lively hostel with a coworking space; good for light work and meeting people, less so for deep focus

// More of the coast

Mirissa, Hikkaduwa and Galle

Beyond the main three nomad towns, the south and west coasts have a few dedicated options.

  • Second Home, Mirissa: a coworking space inside The Hostel Mirissa with standing desks, air conditioning and free coffee and tea
  • The Eight, Hikkaduwa: a coliving and coworking resort with a coworking lounge, pool and organized trips
  • Galle: the Fort and nearby Unawatuna have laptop-friendly cafés and small coworking spots; many people who want a dedicated desk base themselves in Ahangama, about half an hour away. See our Galle page.

// East coast and hills

Arugam Bay, Kandy and Ella

Outside the south coast, choices are fewer but some spaces are well established.

  • Arugam Bay Coworking Center (AbaY): running since 2001 and described as the longest-running coworking space in Sri Lanka, with 24/7 access, generator backup and air conditioning, on Panama Road; see our Arugam Bay page
  • Arugam Bay alternatives: Sunrise Cabanas has a workspace inside the hotel, and Gypcey Lounge is a laptop-friendly café on Manal Road
  • ARCADE, Kandy: a coworking café in Peradeniya with some of the lowest day-pass prices on the island
